RACHEL WRIGHT

Rachel Wright is a textile artist living and working in Buckinghamshire. She grew up in a creative household surrounded by her father’s paintings and engravings. She studied Fashion and Textiles at Birmingham City University, specialising in embroidery, and completed both a BA and MA before graduating in 1994.

She creates intricate textile artworks that capture the beauty of land and seascapes, as well as birds and animals. Her process begins with a sketch directly onto calico, followed by the careful selection of fabric pieces which she layers and pins into place. Then, working on a domestic sewing machine, she stitches over the pieced fabrics, blending colours and textures much like a painter with a brush and palette.

Much of Rachel’s work is inspired by the natural landscapes of the British Isles, particularly by the movement and energy of the sea and sky, using layers of fabric and thread to evoke the shifting light, swirling clouds and restless tides.

She exhibits and sells her work through exhibitions and galleries mostly in Bucks and Oxfordshire. She is a founding member of The Buckinghamshire Craft Guild where she demonstrates three times a month. She is delighted to be taking part in Bucks Art weeks this year with the fabulous group of artists at St Dunstan’s.

Marian Carter is an artist/printmaker who has lived in Buckinghamshire for many years.  She trained as a graphic designer in the early 1980s and attended a printmaking course at Amersham College in the late 1990s.  She has been printmaking ever since.

DENISE PURDY

Denise is a printmaker using traditional printmaking techniques to create modern, abstract hand-pulled prints in small limited editions.  Many of the prints are numbered as part of Variable Editions; this means that each print is slightly different and unique.

Her work explores qualities of mark making with layers of tone, texture, colour and light. She enjoys the spontaneous and intuitive process of monotype printing.  When combined with other techniques, it allows for experimentation, keeping the results fresh and often unpredictable.

She exhibits regularly with other printmakers as part of Bodenpress.

STEVE KEENE

Steve is a wood carver and turner who works with native hardwoods.  He is inspired by wildlife and plant forms, many observed when volunteering with the local Wildlife Trust.

Steve hand cuts incised lettering for house signs and commemorative plaques.  He also produces turned bowls and platters adorned with carving and lettering.  These are often commissioned as bespoke, personalised gifts which will, in time, become heirlooms.

CHRIS INDER

Chris’s ceramics reflect her love of making and her enjoyment in exploring form, texture and colour.

For the Heritage jugs and pots, she makes plaster moulds from her collection of old pewter ware and then casts in porcelain. The firing and glazing process highlights the etched decoration which, faded on the worn pewter, now comes to the fore. This collection brings a contemporary feel to traditional pieces.

Other work is either hand built or thrown on the wheel. It might be textured with natural or found objects from wild flowers to lace, or decorated with hand-drawn images or paper cut stencils and slips.

Chris describes her style as calm and understated, showing the best of the qualities of the porcelain she uses. Her work is tactile, functional and has a strength which belies its delicateness.
