Susan’s contemporary porcelain ceramics are an exploration of the properties of porcelain. She makes her own clay stamps from found objects and uses these to texture thin sheets of porcelain which in turn are used to make translucent tea light holders and table lamps. The designs are inspired by nature such as frost and rain or flowers and leaves.
Other work is more colourful and is inspired by the landscape. Layers of different coloured porcelain are cut, torn and joined until an ‘image’ emerges. This collage is rolled into a large sheet of white porcelain from which a vase, or more often a pair of vases, is made.
